Mr. Blount began his career in 2000 as a 4th and 5th-grade teacher, serving in this capacity for over a decade at Westbriar and Westlawn Elementary Schools.  With a proven track record as an outstanding teacher leader, he was selected to participate in FCPS’s highly competitive and esteemed LEAD program as an administrative intern at Canterbury Woods and Rolling Valley Elementary Schools for the 2012-2013 school year.  During this time, Mr. Blount established himself as a dynamic, highly visible, and collaborative administrator.  In 2013, following his internship year, Mr. Blount was hired as an assistant principal at Centreville Elementary where he has served for the past seven years.

Mr. Blount brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the principalship having served in multiple schools with diverse communities, and various academic programs.  As the lead administrator for Centreville Elementary School’s Innovation and Improvement Plan, Mr. Blount worked collaboratively with stakeholders to identify goals and strategies to improve tier 1 instruction, build capacity in collaborative teams, and ensure a positive school culture.  Mr. Blount’s strong instructional leadership helped Centreville Elementary close achievement gaps and raise the bar for all students in mathematics.  As a result, Centreville ES was awarded the Excellence in Equity Award in 2019.  Mr. Blount created Centreville Elementary School’s first social media site to strengthen relations and communication with the entire school community.  He fostered positive relationships with military families by creating and hosting an annual Veteran’s Day event.  Mr. Blount’s leadership and support has helped Centreville ES earn national recognition as a Model Professional Learning Communities (PLC) School and as one of the Top 10 Green Schools in the Nation.  Mr. Blount has also been recognized as the 2020 Educator of the Year by the Fairfax County Special Education PTA and was a nominee for the 2020 Outstanding School-Based Leader through the FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards program.

Mr. Blount is a true servant leader.  He has built a reputation for being an excellent listener who works tirelessly to build positive relationships with all stakeholders.  He is unfailingly positive and strives to ensure all students, staff, and families feel included as valued members of the school community.  In his previous roles, Mr. Blount established afterschool programming and a Saturday field trip program to provide opportunities for economically disadvantaged students and parents.  In addition, he is credited with the development of a Unified Special Olympics sporting event for all seven schools in the Centreville pyramid and later presented his work at the 2019 Special Education Conference.  As a leader driven to make a difference in the lives of others, Mr. Blount also co-founded a nonprofit organization to serve the homeless.

Mr. Blount holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Bridgewater College, a Master of Education in Educational Transformation from George Mason University, and a Master of Education certification: Administration and Supervision Pre-K-12 from George Mason University.
